PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS OF
ASSISI
LORD, make me a channel of thy peace
that where there is hatred, I may bring love that
where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony
that where there is error, I may bring truth that
where there is doubt, I may bring faith- that share there
is despair, I may bring hope that where there are
shadows, I may bring light that where there is sadness,
I may bring joy. Lord, grant that I may seek rather
to comfort than to be comforted to understand than to be
understood to love, than to be loved. For it is by
self-forgetting that one finds. It is by forgiving that
one is forgiven. It is by dying that one awakens to
Eternal Life.
Amen. | |

A Time for the Timeless by
Deepak Chopra by
Deepak Chopra |
As a day of rest,
the Sabbath is not a mystery, yet it leads the way to mystery, and
that is its fascination. On the seventh day the Lord rested from the
labor of creation. This duty was passed on to His human children,
and Shabbat became a devoted way to live according to God's plan.

The Healing Power of the Precepts: Building
self-esteem the Buddhist way by Thanissaro
Bhikkhu by Thanissaro
Bhikkhu |
Throughout the
history of Buddhism, the Buddha has been described as a doctor,
treating spiritual ills. The path of practice he taught has likewise
served as therapy for suffering hearts and minds. This understanding
of the Buddha and his teachings dates back to the earliest texts,
but its meaning for contemporary practitioners has become more
relevant than ever. |

Are Your Words Getting In The Way Of Your
Communication? by Donald G. Carty by Donald G. Carty |
The six steps to
powerful communication can become habitual with minimal practice.
Communication is a two way loop between sender and receiver. This
loop is governed by a set of rules. Understanding the standardized
use of this set of rules builds good interpersonal skills and high
quality relationships. |

Communing With The Universe - The Power Of
Oracles by Dr. Asoka Selvarajah by Dr. Asoka Selvarajah |
Until recently,
scientists were giving us an increasingly mechanistic view of the
Universe. The "billiard ball" model of reality - namely, that
certain knowable causes always give rise to certain predictable
effects - increasingly dominated all areas of our society.
Scientists expected that one day.... |

No doubt about
it, life can be difficult. Every time we encounter someone or
something new, be it a new car or a new concept, we must quickly
determine if the new object is a threat to our safety. In those
moments when we are gathering data, using our minds to scan for
facial expression and tone of voice..... |

Television
Addiction Is No Mere Metaphor |
The term "TV
addiction" is imprecise and laden with value judgments, but it
captures the essence of a very real phenomenon. Psychologists and
psychiatrists formally define substance dependence as a disorder
characterized by criteria that include spending a great deal of time
using the substance; using it more often than one intends; thinking
about reducing use or making repeated unsuccessful efforts to reduce
use; giving up important social, family or occupational activities
to use it; and reporting withdrawal symptoms when one stops using
it. Scientific America |

How to Practice
: The Way to a Meaningful Life
|
As a primer on
living the good life, few books compete with How to Practice,
another profound offering from the exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader
His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Westerners may be confused by the
book's title, assuming that it focuses solely on Buddhist meditation
and prayer techniques. Though it does address meditation and prayer,
at its core this is a book that demonstrates how day-to-day living
can be a spiritual practice. There are two ways to create happiness:

The Power of
Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment (UNABRIDGED)
|
Ekhart Tolle's
message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness
and enlightenment. And while this message may not seem stunningly
original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice, and
enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever
wondered what exactly "living in the now" means. Foremost, Tolle is
a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in
concrete language. More importantly, within a chapter of reading
this book, readers are already holding the world in a different
container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the
way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness.
